How do you
figure out where a sample is from? If you're lucky, the
liner notes will have info... if not, it takes a bit of
guesswork and a bit of scouting around. Sometimes even if
the liner notes don't list samples they'll give songwriting
credit to the original songwriters, which helps.
Sometimes songs don't use a "true" sample. Instead, people rerecord vocals
or music that sound exactly like the original - probably because they
haven't got clearance to use the sample or some legal issue like that.
